3-4 Qualities and 3-4 Issues that I want to see in MY PRESIDENT

1.  Anti-racist view on the world a neutral perspective, evaluate decisions without any stereotypical views on others, Fairness to all people.

2.  Leadership and a role-model, someone that I am proud to be our countries leader and someone that We as Americans can look up to.

3.  Experienced, I want a president that can back up plans and stragegies with education and/or experience, People trust people who are experienced over one that is not.

ISSUES

1.  Relations with other countries, we as Americans have to revive our once great repuation with the world, or it could end to our demise

2.  Domestic Problems concerning healthcare, poverty, and drugs.  We must stop our problems in our own country or our government simply is not doing their job.

3.  Engergy sources to replicate gasoline, our dependence on a foreign good keeps us from provailing, and is by far our largest economic problem.

4.  Education, We need to make sure that our inner city kids that do not recieve good education have an opportunity to recieve one, better equipment and schools for those who do not recieve much revenue by the town is a necessity in not only solving poverty in inner cities but providing a smarter generation that may help reduce the size of our uneducated inner-city population

America > than the world?

Alkman Granitsas displays the very appropriate point towards America and its independence from the rest of the world.  He claims that America pays less and less attension to world affairs simply because we are “better.”  This piece seemed to show a lot of egoism from start to finish but had some valid points.  It is true that our living styles are far greater than many other countries but us not tuning into the world will create a negative reputation of isolation.  We for centuries wanted the Chinese to open their markets, China a once isolated nation was actually powerful in the same aspects as America is, so why do we play devil’s advocate?  CNN, NBC, or FOX rarely do you see about international media, and when you do its very minimal.  I’ve actually witnessed watching news from another countries news media.  While watching I can see the drastic change between America news versus International news.  International media seeks out many world problems, talks about topics from the Middle East, to even the elections in America, while America continues to stay domestic.  If we are the leaders of globalization, and we promote it, than we must unify with the rest of the world.  Many people come to this country because we are better in a sense but for how long.  World trade and culture is what has created this nation without we are nothing.  America needs to stop its uneducated perspectives of the world and diminish the egoism that it has optained through the years.  America and it’s people needs to globalize today, if it wants to be the super power tomorrow. 

THE QUESTIONS to “NO LOGO”

A.  I perception of Nike and its company has changed drastically after watching Naomi Klein’s “No Logo.”   Although I had previously imagined that income offered to other countries working class was far less I was shocked to hear that some countries make less than 1 dollar a day working at Nike sweat shops.  This is absurd!  Nike has to revive itself from negative globalization and offer fair treatment to any country across the world.  Nike is a dominating company who gross’s billions of dollars a year.  That extra percent of higher income that will ultimately direct itself towards American board members and workers needs to be limited and more money should be given to those countries who work ten times harder for a hundred times less.  I understand that this is business but when business’s market is the world than I believe that there should be certain principles and guidelines to follow in order for these goods to be produced at such a mass level.

B.  We should most definitely be affected by the Nike’s model.  It’s like knowing something horrible is happening without telling anyone about it.  If someone threats someone and you know about it is your right as a citizen to step forth and try to help the cause.  If you don’t and something were to happen which in other countries I am convinced several deaths have happened due to exhaustion and low income then it is our right to try and help those or we as a country should be punished or looked down upon as not world leaders but as world killers.

 

C.  I have not worked necessarily at McDonalds; however I have worked at jobs that have a very similar role and market.  I believe these “Mcjobs” are essential to our growing economy.  It provides a job market for young adults and teenagers and if done correctly can bring globalization a good meaning.

I don’t quite understand why it is that America just so happens to be the world police.  Why is it that we recognize oursleves as being the answer to every nations problems?  Why do we we give several million dollars to help other nations.  Question to some mabey why not? And to such a large degree I believe the same thing however the way we are doing it is not right.  Everytime we seem to help another nation we seem to interfere somehow with business or culture.  Iraq for example, we invade and overthrown Sudamn but what about all the underground oil fields or alliance made with the new commander of Iraq.  What about all the revenue coming our way that american’s don’t neccesarily see.  Better yet what about the problems that America faces everyday for solving other problems.   So many nations believe we are an egoistic and ethnocentric nation who robbs others of culture and tradition and bribes people with money.   In so many ways  we do just that. I am a pro american I love being American but I can not help but witness its faults.  We are a nation that has been given great power and responsibility but how much of that is really our responsibility and who said it was our duty to be the world police.  We have dozens of problems in our own nation that have not and will not embrace because we seem to pay more attension with what nation could benefit us in the future and who we should do business with.  If we keep doing what it is that we are doing there is a great chance that we may be reaching a decline of our world power status and what seemed to work to help establish our power may just as easily become the reason we lose it.  America is a nation that many developing countries seek as role models and that is something to be very proud off.  However, we should also understand that us being as developed as we are could easily go away in the very near future.  Sometimes it is benifitial to just step back and allow other countries to deal with their problems.  America is already at billions of dollars worth of debt, addicted to oil, and politically seems to be a mess with many nations aroudn the globe.  Us trying to create democracy wherever it doenst exist is so similar to making every muslim or jew into a catholic. It simply is not right and we should understand that no matter how developed we are what works for us may not work for another culture. Tradition should not be sacrificed for our dollar and we must understand as a nation that It is our duty to deal with our nation first and then if permited to help others.  Some may think that America helps other for business that comes back to america but that is completely unfair and unjust to other nations as well as the people of America.  We can not just benefit from another nation and label ourselves as the world police if anything we should label ourselves as the World Thief who just so happens to be an economic mastermind formulating the most underground ways of achieving political alliances and money for our nation’s government. 

The Educated Stidemt: Global Citizen or Global Consumer?

In this obscenely long  passage Benjamin Barber suggests that independence or the way that we see independence has changed significantly since the terrible acts of September 11th 2001.  Early in the passage he proclaims that after the attacks of 9/11 America has moved from the Declaration of Independence to the declaration of interdependence.  It quickly jumps to the education that lies within African Americans who just recently have been provided with fair education.  It then sharply jumps to how entertainment as a whole influences are day to day lives everyday.  Advertising companies more and more will provide collateral of some sort to advertise their product to consumers, this would be us.  For example an advertising may fun for better books or something in return for advertisement of their companies on some other product that goes around campus.  Everything is done for benefit, and advertising companies are the king pins of this phenomenon. He later  describes that the previous reputation of America being such a strong nation like a lion in a pack of sheep is absolutely incorrect.   He claims we are very much likable to be attacked through new technology in our homeland and we are continuously fighting battles across the sea in other countries.  He claims that it is the educators requirement to live in the moment of today after the attacks of 9/11 and change the way education is viewed by others.

This passage was extremely descriptive and provided an argument however based upon his own beliefs and opinions.  Facts are minimal and the passage seemed to be confusing at times, transitioning very sharply.

Globalization….good or evil?

This essay by Anthony Giddens describes both the pros as well as the cons of globalization.  Regardless of stance it is easily understood that globalization highly impacts our society not just as a nation but globally.  In this essay Giddens efficiently provides facts to back both views and perspectives on the issue and shows little bias as to his opinion on the topic.  This allows the reader to critically think and evaluate globalization and decide for themselves.  Globalization is likely to cause massive downfall to lower status and underdeveloped countries across the world as well as increase the economy and status of developed nations as well.   There seems to be no right nor wrong to this revolutionary concept however i am for globalization to an extent.  I believe globalization is highly affected by technology and developing nations have a hard time keeping up with advances that developed nations are participating in.  Is this bad? Possibly however just imagine  a world without globalization. Easy right?  Just take away email, stock trading through internet, picture text, online chatting and anything far and in between.  Welcome to a life without globalization.  It is a very con traversal topic but Giddens provides a great outlook on  the  topic through the eyes of people for as well as against globalization.

NIKE…one word…2 meanings!

In the document “The Noble Feat of Nike” Johan Norberg initially provides information leading to a negative outlook on large corporations such as Nike and Coca Cola.  The piece provides information such as the ridiculously low wage prices provided to third world countries by large corporations and sets an anti globalzation view.  Later however it explains of a specific example where the jobs that are created by these coorporations such as Nike have indeed been benifitial to third world nations because their wages are much higher than other jobs known to their cultures as well as more sanitary.  Most jobs in many third world nations are oriented around agricultural jobs in the hot summer son harvesting crops and such.  The book displays that working a nine to five job in air condition is far more satisfying.  My personal outlook on this controversial topic as to whether or not globalization is helpful to poor nations even if they receive far less pay then the average American is also mixed.  I believe it is ridiculous that people of poor background receive such minimal pay however in a sense every man on the face of the world in an entrepreneur and any entrepreneur would  much rather pay  his employees  three dollars an hour rather than ten.   Jobs are obviously being created for these workers and conditions can’t be that bad and unsanitary or else people would just go back to farming and such.  If corporations are making money it means that the workers are benefiting in a sense as well in some way.  Globalization is in my opinion a great way to share experiences and technology and provides jobs as well as different lifestyles however it must be done right and equally or else it is just as bad as not even attempting to aid those in need.
